MICHIKO AOYAMA s-a născut în 1970, în prefectura Aichi, iar în prezent locuiește în Yokohama. După absolvirea facultății, a lucrat doi ani ca reporter pentru un ziar japonez din Sydney. După întoarcerea în Tokyo, s-a angajat redactor la o editură, înainte de a se dedica în întregime scrisului. Cartea ei de debut, Hot Chocolate on Thursday, a câștigat Premiul Miyazakimoto, iar Cats’ Announcements are Under the Tree a câștigat cel de-al 13-lea Tenryu Literary Prize.
